High-Q Defect-Free 2D Photonic Crystal Cavity from Random Localised Disorder

چکیده
We propose a high-Q photonic crystal cavity formed by introducing random disorder to the central region of an otherwise defect-free photonic crystal slab (PhC). Three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain simulations determine the frequency, quality factor, Q, and modal volume, V, of the localized modes formed by the disorder. Relatively large Purcell factors of 500–800 are calculated for these cavities, which can be achieved for a large range of degrees of disorders.

Transmission Measurement of Quality Factor in Two-Dimensional Photonic-Crystal Microcavity
A new micro-cavity design is proposed and structures are realized using a 2D photonic-crystal slab. The cavity consists of seven defect holes that encompass a hexagon and is designed to reduce vertical light leakage. From a direct transmission measurement, a Q-value of 816±30 is achieved at X=1.55jtm. This high-Q cavity will enable realistic realization of spontaneous emission modification and ...

In this paper, we present the simulation results on the absorption modification in photonic crystal (PC) structures. For one-dimensional (1D) PC, using transfer matrix method (TMM), we obtained enhanced absorption in both defectfree and defect based PC structures. High absorption (>60%) and small bandwidth (< 0.1 λ0) at defect level were observed with optimal absorption layers of 10-15 for stru...
